A heart breakthrough...
One of the guys who we serve lunch to on Wednesdays stopped by last night. He recently moved to a near by town but I haven't seen him around much. I was in my apartment gathering things up for Teen Ministry. I turned around and one of the volunteers had let him in. When I saw him standing in my apartment, I was amazed. He would have never done this before. The majority of the guys are reluctant to even come on my porch. But this young man was standing in my apartment and just stopped by because he hadn't seen me in a while! Oh my goodness! I know this doesn't sound like a big deal, but believe me, it is! These guys have never just stopped by to say hi. The kids and teens do, but not the guys I serve lunch to on Wednesdays. They just have so many walls, for so many reasons. They're tough guys and do their best to hide any kind of sentiment they may be feeling. But, not this time. He stood in my apartment with a big smile, telling us all of the places he had visited in the past month. This was a breakthrough moment. I remember about 3 years ago when God first put this young man on my heart. I had heard from several kids in the neighborhood that he was one of the main drug dealers. I began to say hi to him and be nice to him. Back then he would barely say hi and never smile. But now, he is boldly coming to my apartment, smiling a lot and letting me hug him. I have a reminder set up on my computer to pray for him every day. I pray for God to soften his heart and that's exactly what he has been doing! I can't wait to see what other heart breakthroughs God has in store.
