A small get away...

The other night I needed to pick up some paper at Wal-mart. Earlier that day I saw one of the boys and he seemed like he just needed to get away from here for a little bit. He has to watch his younger brothers a lot and doesn't get out of the house much. So, I told him to ask his Mom if he could go with me and to find a friend to bring along. It's amazing how much fun 12 year old boys can have at Wal-mart! We looked at school supplies, played in the video game section, and had a foam sword fight in the toy aisle. Afterwards we drove through A&W and got ice cream. It only took about 1 1/2 hours but it was so much fun! They had a blast and smiled the whole time. I love this neighborhood with my whole heart, but there are times when I just need to get away. I am able to do that any time I want, but the majority of the time these kids stay within walking distance of John DeShields. Wal-mart is only 15 minutes away from here, but it was like getting away for the weekend to them.
