At the beginning of June, I ran into a young lady that I mentored over the years. We hadn’t seen each other for a few years and she is now in her early 20’s. I gave her my phone number again and told her to call me anytime. A few weeks after that, she called to ask for prayer. She said that her brother was charged with murder. But he said he didn’t do it and she believes he didn’t. We prayed that God would bring justice to the situation, reveal anything hidden in darkness and expose the truth as to who did it. I encouraged her to thank God for working things out any time she starts to worry. She said, “I always think of you as my angel that God sent to me, thank you so much for all of your help.” I got off the phone, once again in awe of God that He let me be right in the middle of the jaws of hell able to bring light to others.
I know that God has wonderful plans for this city. It is a beautiful city that God has called as His very own. He has ANOINTED plans for East St. Louis. When He sees this city, He doesn’t see crime and death, He doesn’t see darkness. He sees the potential that East St. Louis has and the potential of the wonderful people here. He doesn’t see the problems. He looks right past the problems, to the future of this city that He wants to make GREAT! He wants to raise up drug dealers, gang members, pregnant teens and single moms to minister to this city that has a GREAT future and a GREAT hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
