This past weekend I attended a 2-day training on how to start a mentoring ministry. Even though it was very informational, it was very powerful as well. Through it, God began to show me His HEART for fatherless and motherless children. I was beginning to see that mentoring was God’s idea. The original mentor is the father and mother, but so many of our kids today, just don’t have that available to them, either through imprisonment, drug abuse, abandonment or death. God meant for the father and the mother to be a child’s role model and the person they know is there for them anytime they need them, but that doesn’t always happen. That’s where a mentor comes in. God can use a mentor to re-build a foundation of trust and worth in a child. God is determined to show his heart to children, which is that of a father and a mother, and if he doesn’t have the natural parent available to do that, He will find someone who will let Him show His heart. I am in the process of setting up a mentoring ministry. Christian Mentoring is something that God has put on my heart very strongly and I pray that the future mentors of this ministry would be used to lead kids and teens to the One whose LOVE lasts forever. Check out this powerful quote from the founder of Big Brothers, Big Sisters, "There is only one possible way to serve that youngster (who is in trouble) and that is to have some earnest, true man volunteer to be his big brother, to look after him, help him do right; make the little chap feel that there is at least one human being in this great city who takes a personal interest in him, who cares whether he live or dies."
