Comfort for a prisoner...

This morning I had my 2nd visit to the St. Clair County Jail, where one of the young men who live here in John DeShields is an inmate. I have known him since he was about 15 years old. We write back and forth each week. Here is something that he wrote in one of his letters, "Your letters do something to me every time I get one back from you, they put hope and faith back into me and give me strength. Thank you for that Rachel." When I write him letters I always include a few verses for him to look up that will encourage him. He writes me back letting me know that he has looked them up and sometimes he'll write the verses out in long hand on the letter. It is so exciting to know that he actually looks up the verses and writes them in his letters back to me! I believe that little by little God is stirring a hunger in his heart for the Word. I believe the thing that prisoners need the most is COMFORT. Everything around them is hard and cold, they need the comfort of God's LOVE and someone to tell them that there is HOPE. Someone to write them and visit them. I encourage you that if you know someone who is a prisoner, write them and let them know that you care. Visit them if you can. I think many prisoners feel forgotten by friends and family because of what they've done and where they're at. It's easy to forget them, because they are not seen. But, God hasn't forgotten them , He sees them and His heart breaks for the prisoner.
