On my way home from the bank, I felt a prompting to drive through downtown East St. Louis and just look at some of the old abandoned buildings that are still standing. As I did, I saw people working on several of the buildings. Some were putting new brick on the front of a run down building, some were boarding up another building, and I noticed that two of the buildings had been freshly painted with new awnings put in the front. I couldn't believe my eyes. These run down buildings have been left untouched for as long as I can remember. I turned the corner and saw another building being boarded up. I just had to stop and ask what was going on! I asked a worker and he said, "We're just out here trying to REBUILD the city." When he said those words, tears welled up in my eyes and i found myself crying in front of this construction worker that I didn't even know. I told him that this was an HUGE answer to prayer and that is my heart, that this city be REBUILT, from the inside out.
Isaiah 61:4 (New Living Translation)
4 They will REBUILD the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations.
Isaiah 61:4 (The Message)
They'll REBUILD the old ruins, raise a new city out of the wreckage. They'll start over on the ruined cities, take the rubble left behind and make it new.
