Rick is a young man in his 20's who was always good to u and never hard hearted. He desired to work and do something with his life, but kept running into obstacles. The biggest obstacle he faced was when his mother died a little over a year ago. But he never gave up. We are back to grilling outside and thankfully the lady who runs half of the John DeShields Community Center lets us use their playground area to serve lunch where there is also a small community garden.
A few weeks ago, we were setting up for lunch and saw Rick taking care of the garden. With some help, he was able to get a job taking care of the garden and the grounds at some of the other housing developments in East St. Louis. When we saw him working, we were so excited for him! He even said that when he was growing up, his grandmother taught him how to garden and it's something he enjoys. It did my heart good to see him working and not only that, but doing a job he enjoys.
