Seeds planted during a meal...

Yesterday we took two of the teen boys to lunch. One of them had been asking for a while if we could go, he is one of those kids who is really connected to us and just hungry for relationship. The other one had been gone from our Champions Teen Program for a while. I wanted to be able to spend time with him, so he knew that we were still pursuing a relationship with him.

The ride there we listened to music and they weren't very talkative. But somehow a simple meal together always brings out good conversation. At first it was just small talk. But as the meal went on, we began talking about our relationships with our fathers, dating relationships and sex before marriage. These are boys who really know our heart for them, so they are open to us asking the tough questions. We challenged them in areas of having multiple dating relationships and how God desires them to wait till marriage to have sex. One openly admitted to not being a virgin. And we encouraged him that nothing is ever too late with God.

I know that in this specific issue of sex before marriage, conversations like these are seeds. This culture is so steeped in sexual immorality, that when sharing the truth of God's Word, more than anything, we are plowing the ground so the seed can take root later on down the road. There are mind sets that have to be changed and that won't happen over night. So I know that one conversation won't bring an instant change, but I'm thankful for these conversations because I know that each one is a seed planted in the thoughts of their heart and mind.

By the end of the lunch, even though we had been a "Mama" to these two boys by challenging them in tough areas, I knew they left yesterday feeling VERY LOVED.
